Board appointment
Wesfarmers today announced the appointment of Mike Roche to the Board of Wesfarmers Limited, effective from 19 February 2019.
Mr Roche has more than 40 years’ experience in the finance sector including the provision of strategic, financial, merger and acquisition and capital advice to major corporate, private equity and government clients. He stepped down as Deutsche Bank’s Chairman of Mergers and Acquisitions (Australia and New Zealand) in 2016 after serving over 22 years with the bank including 10 years as head of mergers and acquisitions. He was also a member of the Takeovers Panel for two terms from 2008 to 2014.
Mr Roche is a Trustee Director of EISS Super and a director of Six Park Asset Management. He is also the co-founder of the Sally Foundation philanthropic fund and a panel member of corporate advisory fund Adara Partners where fees generated go to people living in extreme poverty.
Wesfarmers Chairman Michael Chaney said he was extremely pleased to welcome Sydney–based Mr Roche to the Board.
“Mike has advised on a large number of major transactions in most sectors over his career and brings extensive and valuable experience to Wesfarmers, including as a leading innovator in capital markets,” Mr Chaney said. “His appointment further strengthens the Board’s mix of skills, knowledge and experience and continues the succession process following the recent retirements of James Graham and Paul Bassat.”
Mr Roche said he was delighted to have the opportunity to join the Wesfarmers Board as the Group repositioned for the next decade.
Mr Roche holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland, is a Fellow of the Actuaries Institute of Australia and a Graduate of Australian Institute of Company Directors.
